Lesson: Practise & Imagine Function: Planning a visit , making suggestions , expressing obligation & prohibition , asking a favour ,cheking understanding and correcting misunderstanding. Notions: The future tense , Present Continuous with future intent , modals can/must , sequencers. Language forms: Shall/will , going to.. , I'm visiting..next , can ,could, must ,to be allowed to ,First,… Lexical items:. Fees , rent , reservation , scuba diving. visual aids: pictures /textbook/BB. Objective: make the learner able to use expressions in real life situations. PROCEDURE Warm up: A review on the conversation about ' Swansea ': What's there in the Maritime Quareter of Swansea? ( PP speak ) Step one: Practise • Role Play: Look at the pictures and play roles : ( 1 page 69) PP will practise making and responding to suggestions using cues. (T. reminds PP about the social conventions that should be followed when we say no to a suggestion.) e.g : A: What fantastic weather! Why don't we go swimming? / Let's go swimming. B: I'd rather not / That's a good idea. ( scuba diving , fishing , going for a walk , swimming , windsurfing ) • Role Play:Make suggestions starting with : ' Why don't you...,Let's...,' then change roles (2 p.69) PP will practise making and responding to suggestions . • Pair Work:Play out the dialogue below and use the cues in the box to build others :( 3 page 69 ) PP will use the cues in the box to ask for and respond to favours. ( T.simulates a spoken interaction for illustration before asking PP to interact. ) A: HelloJohn. Could I ask you a favour? B: Of course. What can I do for you? B: Can you drive me to the harbour? B: Certainly. ( check the opening hours of the Marine Museum /ask for maritime course fees / rent a weekend stay / make a reservation at the boat booking office / get tickets for the evening ) Step two: Imagine PP will use speaking strategies like checking understanding, showing understanding, and correcting misunderstanding. • Guess what the people in the sentences below have said and say it again to check your understanding(1p.70) Situation 1 : A: So you want to learn water skiing? First , you need to take swimming lessons . Then you have to choose... B: Ok . So first I... A: Yes.That's right / No. It's not exactly that. ( In this situation .T. interacts with PP to elicit information about water skiing. (e.g. What is water skiing? Where do we practise water skiing? Which instruments do we need for water skiing? A pair of water skis, swimming trunks/ suit, a small motor boat, rope? ) and goes back to the spoken interaction in the text book and has PP complete instruction A with another sentence. The spoken interaction should be as short as possible. In response B, PP are supposed to reformulate what A has said in order to check understanding.
